Porthtowan is just 15 minutes drive away with a surf shop and café. A large, windswept sandy bay where surfers flock when the conditions are right.
Chapel Porth Beach is a similar distance away and perfect if you want a short trek as part of your visit. It’s down a valley with sand that only emerges at low tide.
Perranporth Beach (20 minutes drive) is perhaps the most popular of the lot, with a pub on the beach and great surf most of the year.
There’s a good helping of beaches in Newquay (35 minutes drive) further up the coast. This is also a good place to get your hands on a jet ski for the day or take a wildlife watching water safari.
Falmouth (30 minute drive) has plenty of chances for boarding a sailboat, not to mention that it has the impressive 16th-century Pendennis Castle atop of the River Fal with a cannon collection.
Clothier's Huts are also close to The Roseland peninsula: Visiting the Roseland peninsula | Cornwall | National Trust & St Mawes Castle and half an hour away from St Ives.
Roseland peninsula is an unspoilt landscape of cliffs, creeks, woods and beaches, which is a great area to explore on foot. There are coves and dog-friendly bays waiting to be discovered, as well as remnants of medieval and military history and wildlife in the water and sky.
The South West Coast Path can be accessed by a network of other footpaths that head inland to create delightful circular walks.
